Idealist and dreamer for some, perfectionist and stubborn for others, Matthieu TORQUEBIAU is above all passionate, a lover of nature and beautiful things.

When he started Domaine l’Hermas in 2004, he was looking for a particular type of terroir. He wanted an elevated parcel of garrigue, with northern exposure, close to the family property. This “Hermas” (abandoned land in Occitan) was finally discovered, he cleared the land and planted Syrah and Mourvèdre. Today the domaine extends over approximately 10 hectares.

After six long years of hard work and patience, the first vintage was born in 2009: elegant, fresh and expressing all the minerality from the soils of the Terrasses du Larzac. The gamble was a success. The adventure begins… Oenologist by trade, but certainly not a “winemaker”, Mathieu today vinifies two cuvee: l’Hermas White and l’Hermas Red. His wines can be found on the wine lists of some of the best Michelin starred restaurants in France.
